Compassionate experts in helping families overcome fear of dogs
For over 40 years, Cynophobia Classes were run by Roy Dyer MBE at the Essex Dog Training Centre. The classes received much praise, with Roy earning his award for Services to Dogs and the Community.
Unfortunately, in 2024 the classes were forced to close. Wanting to preserve Roy’s legacy and continue supporting the many children who benefited from the sessions, several of us who had worked alongside him for years decided to carry the mission forward. Just a few weeks later, PAWFECT FRIENDS – Cynophobia Family Support was established at a new venue, ensuring that this valuable work could continue for future generations.
We are one of only three such groups and the only one in Essex.
We are a small and friendly CIC, ran entirely by volunteers who enjoy working with their pet dogs to help children overcome their fear.
Our dogs and handlers undergo a 21 point suitability assessment and a probationary period so that we know we can rely on them.
The session leader oversees and directs the class, remaining flexible according to the needs of the children. We encourage questions, requests and family participation and try to have fun.
Enquiries are picked up daily and a telephone call with a class leader helps explain what to expect so we can ease you in gently.
