Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our cynophobia classes

Every person is different and we allow individuals to progress at their own pace. Progress is quicker with regular attendance, if possible. Contacting us is progress, often the hardest step. We understand that and so encourage a quick chat with no pressure to come to class.

Absolutely not. New starters usually have a 1:1 induction in a separate area and are accompanied by an experienced handler as much as needed in class. Seating is up on the 'stage' area and no dogs are allowed up there. We provide a 'safe space' and give you control. You can say no and take a break at any time in class.

£10 cash per week for occasional or drop in sessions. £30/month by standing order for regular attendance.

There is currently no waiting list. Get in touch via our Facebook page or email and we'll arrange a call to explain what to expect.

There are no separate classes for adults. We adapt each session to meet the specific needs of those attending, giving one on one attention where appropriate. Our sessions help young children, teens and young adults which, along with the nature of overcoming a fear, mean that everyone is treated individually and adults fit right in successfully.

No. Everything you do, or don't do, is your decision. Feeling in control around dogs is fundamental and this is what classes are all about. The handlers are in control of their dogs and you are in control of what you do.

You do not need to be in the same room — you can watch through a glass partition until you decide that you would like to enter. Once in the hall, we have a raised stage area which is a dog free zone. When the dogs and handlers arrive for class they enter by a separate door avoiding the main door.

Our dogs are very special, they are Cynophobia Assistance Dogs. They have been rigorously tested for temperament, reliability and control. Only a very small proportion of those that apply are passed and get their jackets. They will not jump up, lick or mouth you, bark at you or become excited around you. They are held to a far higher standard than the dogs who are passed to go into hospitals, care homes, schools etc.

No. Everything you do is your decision, your choice, your pace, you are in control.

It's much more successful (and fun) for the family to be involved in the process and are required to be there for supervision purposes too. Family sit on the raised stage and the youngster will be accompanied by a handler and carefully and gradually integrated into activities.

Please read the testimonials from our families and check our Facebook/Instagram pages.

We view actually coming to the class as a result! Recognising that everyone is different, we can say with certainty that everybody sees improvement from the first class onwards. We don't expect progress to be linear but acknowledging the complexities involved, we are pretty sure you'll be pleased you came. Regular attendance helps over a period of weeks/months but as everyone is different it is impossible to gauge how long you will decide to attend.

No. Probably the best thing you can do is have some idea of how our classes work so that there are no surprises. Once you've contacted us, a senior handler will get in touch to have a chat to help you understand what to expect. There is absolutely no pressure to attend.
